Credential Evaluation: How Indian Degrees Are Assessed Abroad
21 October 2026
5 min read
Some universities abroad require a credential evaluation to convert your Indian degrees into an equivalent local standard.
What it is
A credential evaluation is a document-by-document assessment of your Indian academic records, done by an independent agency.
When you need it
- Some US universities require it for graduate admissions
- Professional licensing bodies (medicine, engineering) always require it
- Some Canadian and Australian universities request it
Common agencies
- WES (World Education Services) — most widely recognized
- ECE (Educational Credential Evaluators)
- ICAS (Canada)
The process
- Submit your official transcripts directly from your university to the agency
- Pay the evaluation fee (typically $150–250)
- Wait 3–6 weeks for the report
- The report is sent to your target universities
